Privacy at SHOWUP

SHOWUP is an adults-only dating service. We aim to use member information only where it is needed to operate, improve and protect the service and help members discover compatible people.

Information we use

When you join or create a profile we may process information including your name, email address, age, area, dating direction, profile text, interests, matching preferences and profile photos. If you use communication, gift and safety features, we may also process messages, match activity, gifts sent or received, gift responses, credit balances and transaction history, contact-exchange choices, blocks, reports and information you provide when reporting a concern.

Dating and sensitive information

Dating profiles and preferences can reveal sensitive information. SHOWUP may allow members to optionally provide information such as ethnicity or cultural background and related matching preferences. These fields are optional and should only be used where you are comfortable providing them. We do not sell member profile information to advertisers.

Who can see profile information

Information you add to your dating profile may be shown to other eligible SHOWUP members as part of discovery, matching and communication. Private account information is not intended to appear on your public-facing dating profile, and member information is not intended to be publicly indexed by search engines.

Gifts and SHOWUP Credits

SHOWUP may let members use virtual credits to send optional gifts such as hearts or flowers. To operate this feature we may process your credit balance, gifts sent and received, the credit cost of a gift, the recipient's response and a transaction record used to keep balances accurate and investigate misuse or account issues. Gifts do not by themselves unlock private messaging or override matching, blocking, privacy or membership controls.

Messages, reports and blocks

SHOWUP provides private messaging between eligible matched members. Messages and related activity may need to be processed to deliver the chat service, operate safety features and investigate reports. Members can report or block another member. Information submitted in a report may be reviewed to assess the concern and decide what action is appropriate.

Contact Exchange

SHOWUP may restrict sharing of phone numbers, email addresses or social handles until Contact Exchange conditions are met. We may process message counts, match timing and each member's readiness choice to operate this feature. Contact Exchange is a product safety feature and does not guarantee that another member is safe or trustworthy.

Optional manual selfie photo comparison

If you opt in, SHOWUP stores a compressed selfie privately so an authorised administrator can compare it with your current main profile photograph. It is not government-ID verification, automated face recognition, a liveness check or a guarantee of identity. No facial template is generated. Selfie image bytes are erased after a review, after 30 days if still pending, or if you withdraw the request. We retain the comparison outcome, dates and reviewer identifier until you withdraw or delete your account. After withdrawal, we may retain the submission timestamp without an image to enforce a 24-hour anti-spam limit. You can use SHOWUP without opting in. This feature uses the existing SHOWUP hosting and database, not a paid identity provider.

Age and identity checks

SHOWUP is for people aged 18 and over. The current beta profile check is not a government-ID, criminal-record or background check. If stronger age or identity verification is introduced, we intend to use a specialist verification process where appropriate and minimise the verification information retained directly by SHOWUP. We will explain the process and relevant data handling before asking members to use it.

Membership and payments

Where paid membership or paid virtual credits are offered, payment processing may be provided by a specialist payment provider. SHOWUP may retain membership status, credit transaction records and payment-provider identifiers needed to recognise and manage a purchase or membership, rather than storing full payment-card details itself. Real-money credit purchasing is not currently active during this early-access build.

How information is used

We use member information to provide accounts, profiles, discovery, matching, mutual interest, gifts, virtual credits, membership, messaging and safety features; to operate and improve SHOWUP; to prevent misuse; and to respond to support, safety or legal requirements where applicable.

Your choices

You can choose whether to provide optional profile information and can ask us to correct or delete information associated with your SHOWUP account. Additional self-service account and privacy controls are being developed during early access.

Early access

SHOWUP is currently an early-access service launching first in Birmingham and the UK. This notice will continue to be updated as the service, verification arrangements, gifts, payments and member controls develop. This page describes SHOWUP's current product approach and is not a claim that every future feature or verification method is already active.

Approximate matching location and preferences

Distance matching uses a town or postcode-district centre. We do not display your coordinates or district on public profile cards. Postcode districts you enter are checked with Postcodes.io. Optional gender and preferred-gender selections are used for matching and can be changed in your profile.

Account removal requests

Request removal in Account & privacy. Your profile is hidden immediately. Removal is completed after paid subscriptions and outstanding safety cases have been handled; a pending request is not described as a deleted account. Necessary billing records may remain with the payment provider.
