Dating safety

SHOWUP is about helping people move from dating apps towards good real dates — but safety comes before speed.

Before meeting

Keep early conversations inside SHOWUP when messaging is available. Never send money, gift cards, bank details, passwords or verification codes to another member. Be cautious if somebody quickly pushes you onto another platform or tells an urgent financial story.

Virtual gifts

A SHOWUP virtual gift is only an in-app signal of interest. It is never a reason to send somebody money, buy them a real-world gift or share financial details. Receiving a gift does not create any obligation to reply, match, chat or meet.

First dates

Meet in a busy public place, arrange your own transport, tell somebody you trust where you are going and keep your phone charged. Do not feel pressured to share your home address or go somewhere private.

Trust your judgement

A match, virtual gift, social sign-in or SHOWUP beta profile check is not a guarantee of identity, intentions or safety. If something feels wrong, end the conversation or date. Members can use SHOWUP's blocking and reporting controls without sending a closing message or affecting their communication standing, and blocked members cannot use gifts to bypass that boundary.

Real Photo Policy

SHOWUP prohibits AI-generated profile faces, stolen photos, face-changing filters and deceptive edits. Members confirm this when uploading, but this is not an automated authenticity check or identity verification. Members can optionally submit a private selfie for human comparison with their main profile photo; that is not proof of identity or a live-person check. Do not assume a photo is genuine just because it appears on a profile. Report suspicious profiles and use normal dating safety precautions.

Respect stars

SHOWUP Respect Rating reflects communication records such as respectful conversation closures. It does not verify identity, check somebody's background or guarantee their intentions or safety.

18+ only

SHOWUP is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. The current beta profile check is not government-ID or background verification. Stronger age and identity assurance is being assessed as part of the launch safety work and will only be described as active once it is genuinely in place.

Immediate danger

If you or somebody else is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services. SHOWUP is not an emergency service.
